SESCA Delivers Pioneering Training to Support the Emotional Wellbeing of Overseas Care Workers

SESCA, in collaboration with Aventurine Therapies, has designed a groundbreaking training course tailored to help newly arrived care workers. Titled “Emotional Wellbeing for Overseas Carers,” the training is designed to address the emotional challenges accompanying the transition to life and work in a new country. The 3-hour online group therapy course is specially tailored for care workers who have uprooted their lives and families for employment in the southeast of the UK. It offers invaluable support in navigating the challenges of settling into new communities, overcoming cultural differences, and adapting to the demands of the social care sector. Delivered by an expert Psychological Wellbeing Coach, the course provides a safe and nurturing environment for participants to explore their emotions, foster resilience, and cultivate effective self-care strategies.

Success of Pilot Training Courses

  • Over the last six weeks, SESCA conducted six courses, comprising two 1.5-hour live online sessions, which ran on consecutive days, allowing for reflection in between.
  • 77 overseas carers were booked and confirmed for the courses, with an impressive 69% completion rate.
  • Of those who completed the course, 55% provided evaluation forms, offering valuable insights into their experience.

Participant Feedback and Satisfaction

  • Participants had all relocated to the southeast to work either in domiciliary or residential care services in the past year, having left their home countries in Africa, India, and Sri Lanka.
  • All participants overwhelmingly praised the course’s content and structure, rating it as “good” or “excellent”.
  • They reported feeling happier and emotionally stronger post-training, with 100% stating they would recommend the course to fellow care workers.

Key Quotes

  • “The course was enlightening and makes one believe in oneself.”
  • “It was a great opportunity to free ourselves from negative emotions and share experiences with others.”
  • “The course will benefit many care providers and any other health professionals.”
  • “The course was perfect – I am really grateful for this platform.”

Rollout of Additional Courses

Building on this success, SESCA is pleased to announce the rollout of additional courses from late April. Booking instructions will soon be made available on our website and via local Care Associations.
