East Sussex and Brighton & Hove Partners in Care (ESPIC) are raising the alarm over growing financial pressures on care providers due to recent government policy changes. Increases in employer National Insurance (NI) contributions and the National Living Wage (NLW), announced in the Autumn Budget, are placing a significant strain on the sector, raising concerns about workforce retention, service provision, and the financial viability of care services.
A recent survey conducted by the association highlights serious risks to the stability of care providers, many of whom are already struggling with tight budgets and limited funding. Chair Mike Derrick warned:
“Care providers across our region are reaching breaking point. The latest government policy changes, while well-intentioned, will have unintended and severe financial consequences for our sector. Without urgent intervention and proper funding, many providers will be unable to continue delivering essential care services.”
ESPIC are calling for urgent discussions with local MPs to explore solutions that could ease the financial burden on care providers. The crisis is being highlighted as part of the #ProvidersUnite Day of Action, a national movement calling for government intervention and long-term funding reforms to safeguard the future of social care.
