The Home Office has announced that effective April 6, 2024, sponsors will no longer have to renew their sponsor licences. This means that sponsors whose licences are due to expire on or after this date will no longer need to apply for renewal or pay a renewal fee.
To facilitate this change, the Home Office has automatically extended the expiry date of all licences due to expire on or after April 6, 2024, by 10 years. No action is required from sponsors in response to this extension.
This is welcome news for existing sponsors as it eliminates the cost and administrative burden of renewing sponsor licences every four years. Previously, sponsors had to submit renewal applications within 90 days before the expiry date and pay a renewal fee, which varied based on the size of the sponsor.
The removal of the renewal requirement allows the Home Office to allocate more resources to other priorities, such as sponsor compliance and the digitalization of the UK’s immigration system. Despite the change, sponsor compliance remains a top priority for the Home Office, and employers should remain prepared and compliant with all necessary requirements.
