From 1 April 2026, the National Minimum Wage for workers aged 21 and over will increase to £12.71 per hour (up from £12.21).
Further to our previous update, there will be no increase to the minimum salary threshold for Health and Care Worker visa holders at this time. The sponsored minimum rate will remain at £12.82 per hour, sitting just above the new National Minimum Wage.
This will be welcomed by providers, as it avoids immediate additional cost pressures and the need for payroll adjustments for sponsored staff.
However, it is unusual for the sponsored rate not to increase in line with the National Minimum Wage. Providers should be aware that a further adjustment later in the current financial year cannot be ruled out.
We will continue to monitor developments and will provide updates as soon as any changes are confirmed.
