In a significant move towards safeguarding the rights of migrant care workers in the UK, a coalition of charities and experts, spearheaded by FLEX (Focus on Labour Exploitation), has released a comprehensive policy position paper. The paper, titled “Joint Position Paper on Preventing Exploitation in the Adult Social Care Sector,” underscores the urgent need for policy reforms to mitigate exploitation and improve working conditions in the care sector. Submitted to the Home Secretary in December 2023, the paper advocates for critical reforms such as the establishment of a National Care Service and enhancements to labor market enforcement mechanisms and recruitment practices.
