Home Office Confirms Increase to Immigration Skills Charge from 16th December 2025

On 14 October 2025, the Home Office announced further changes to the immigration system to implement measures set out in the Immigration White Paper (IWP), published in May 2025.
A summary of the changes, including a link to the official “Statement of Changes and Explanatory Memorandum” on the Gov.uk website can be found here.

The key change affecting adult social care providers is an increase to the Immigration Skills Charge (ISC) — the fee UK employers must pay for each worker they sponsor under the Skilled Worker visa route.

From 16 December 2025, the ISC will rise by 32%:

  • For large sponsors, from £1,000 to £1,320 per year

  • For small or charitable sponsors, from £364 to £480 per year

The Immigration Skills Charge is paid when a Certificate of Sponsorship is assigned to a worker.

Important reminder: Employers must pay the Immigration Skills Charge themselves. Your sponsor licence will likely be revoked if you ask the sponsored worker to pay the fee or any related costs.

SESCA will continue to monitor updates and provide guidance for providers.
