Course Description

This 4-hour online group therapy course is specifically designed for newly arrived care workers who have left their lives and families in their home countries. The course aims to support participants with the emotional challenges of adjusting to life and work in the South-East UK, settling into new communities, overcoming cultural differences, and adapting to the challenges of working in social care. Delivered by a qualified Psychological Wellbeing Coach, the course will provide a safe space for participants to explore their emotions, build resilience, and develop strategies for self-care.

Course Structure

Session 1  

Introduction and Building Trust

Intro to Aventurine and the care or carers support system

  • Setting expectations and defining the course goals and objectives.

Understanding Transitions and Loss 

  • Exploring the challenges and emotional impact of leaving one’s home country and family.
  • Sharing personal stories and experiences of loss and adjustment.
  • Identifying common emotions and validating participants’ experiences.

Managing Stress and Self-Care

Understanding the causes of stress and the emotional demands of working in social care.

  • Reflections on stress and personal experiences: discussion and sharing
  • Recognizing signs of stress and burnout.
  • Introducing stress management techniques and self-care practices
  • Breathing in the present, gratitude, open heart visualisation
  • Developing personalized self-care plans for participants

Homework: Develop a self-care daily routine using the techniques explored in this session.

Session 2:  

Recap and Review of Homework Task 

Building Resilience and Emotional Strength 

  • Understanding WHY emotional strength is required in the role of a care worker.
  • Identifying personal strengths and resources.
  • Learning techniques for resilience-building and emotional regulation – Emotional Freedom Technique (tapping)

Coping with Homesickness and Emotional Exhaustion 

  • Addressing feelings of homesickness and strategies for coping.
  • Sharing tips and techniques for managing emotional exhaustion – Reviewing Gratitude journalising, Open heart visualisation, EFT.
  • Shopping list for self-care: The first aid kit

Supportive Relationships and Peer Support  

  • Encouraging peer support and building networks among participants
  • Discussing the importance of supportive relationships.
  • Sharing experiences and strategies for building positive relationships – LEAN ON ME – a game to increase connection within the group and facilitate openness and trust.

Wrap-Up and Reflections 

  • Reflections on what you have learned
  • Feedback and continued learning – what will you take away and incorporate into your routine?

About the Trainer

Anoushka is the founder of Aventurine Therapies, a certified and licensed Rapid Transformational Therapy ® Practitioner, Certified Spiritual Life Coach, healer, intuitive, author and speaker, sharing on her own experience of trauma recovery to empower others to live happier and more fulfilled lives.

Anoushka’s first introduction to the care sector was witnessing her parent’s careers and developed a deep understanding of the stresses and burdens carried by care staff. Later, during her career as a Marketing Director for care technology companies she developed a passion and desire to support the workforce and launched the care badge campaign.

It was through this campaign to raise the profile of care, that Anoushka connected with her true purpose, and realised her passion for contributing to the empowerment and wellbeing of others.

Anoushka launched Aventurine Therapies in 2020 and now serves as an Emotional Wellbeing Coach for Social Care, with a mission to improve staff retention by supporting the health and wellbeing of the care workforce. Her course “Care for Carers” has been created specifically for the needs of care staff and is now available to purchase online.

Anoushka is also a speaker, author and 1:1 RTT® Therapist for the treatment of childhood wounds and PTSD.
